I used an Digilent Nexys2 FPGA development board, featuring an Xilinx Spartan 3E 1200k FPGA to generate VGA signals from its VGA port. The display driver blocks were all written myself in a combination of Verilog and Xilinx Schematics. This allows the board to generate a 1366x768@60hz signal as well as a 1280x1024@60hz signal - a vast improvement over the provided 640x480@60hz and 800x600@60hz that the reference blocks permit.
