"In my country [Turkey], words can put you in trouble," said Turkish novelist Elif Shafak to an audience at WIRED2014. This, however, hasn't deterred the award-winning writer from weaving together words to create stories that have been translated into more than 40 languages around the world.

WIRED2014 was the fourth annual event to bring the values of WIRED to life. Building on experience from groundbreaking previous events, WIRED2014 gathered pioneering speakers from around the world to stimulate debate, spread ideas and showcase the future in a multidisciplinary way.
