Standard operating procedure in Uganda is;
when entering new premises as a tenant, you have to pay a security deposit.
This security deposit is used by the landlord to make repairs to the property if you caused damage to the property during your tenancy.
In the event that you didnt cause any damage to the property, the security deposit will be refunded to you the tenant at the end of your tenancy .
The landlord and Tenant Act notes that the security deposit should be equivalent to a month’s rent. i.e if your monthly rent is 800,000 ugx security deposit should be 800,000ugx.
