The Mall is one of the prettiest places to go in Central Park in spring and summer. It's absolutely spectacular in the fall when the leaves are changing color.
The Central Park Mall is a broad promenade stretching from Bethesda Terrace through the middle of the Park from 66th to 72nd street. It's just south of the Terrace Bridge and Bethesda Fountain. The Olmsted Flower Bed anchors the other end. Near the southern end you'll see statues of Christopher Columbus and William Shakespeare. Statues of other writers like Robert Burns and Sir Walter Scott can also be found near the southern end.
The Mall was originally designed to accommodate the carriages passing through the Park, often dropping off wealthy Manhattan residents whowanted to enjoy a day surrounded by the Park's natural beauty.
Every day, weather permitting, you'll find musicians and artists lining the Mall. You can hear a saxophonist playing during this video.
