These are the 5 stages that every patient with Hashimoto's thyroiditis will ultimately go through unless they do something to stop them:

Stage 1. Immune cell infiltration: During this stage, you will not have any symptoms or see any abnormal changes on your thyroid lab tests.

Stage 2. Subclinical hypothyroidism: During this stage, you will start to feel run down but you most likely won't realize you have a thyroid problem. This is the BEST stage to catch your disease in.

Stage 3. True hypothyroidism: In this stage, you will experience big symptoms and you will see abnormal thyroid lab tests. Most patients get diagnosed here.

Stage 4. Additional autoimmune diseases: Over the next several years to decades you may develop additional autoimmune diseases.

Stage 5. End-stage Hashimoto’s: Ultimately, after 5-20 years, your thyroid will be completely destroyed by your immune system and you will end up in this stage.

You should do everything in your power to prevent the complete destruction of your thyroid gland using both natural and medical therapies.
