Here's a short lesson / challenge for students to learn about the root 'ject', which means 'to throw'. In this session we use Explicit Direct Instruction protocols to learn about this common root and build and study some common vocabulary words that contain 'ject'. Then the fun begins as students are challenged to build as many 'ject' words as they can from the on screen morpheme matrix and then use these words in a story. Reluctant writers love these challenges because the spelling and ideation load is reduced through the lead up activities that precede the writing task. This challenge has multiple entry and exit points and is built in a way to make differentiation easy.
