Microsoft Technical Fellow Steven Bathiche explains why Microsoft created a whole new category of computer: the AI PC. Under the hood of the new Copilot+ PC’s (including the new flagship Surface models), Microsoft has put an NPU chip capable of running 45 trillion operations per second (TOPS) while using less than 4 watts of power. This makes it possible to run 40 state-of-the-art A.I. models concurrently, wherever you are, with minimal impact on battery life.
This athletic hardware provides the foundation for Windows’ banner A.I. features: Recall, Cocreator, and Studio Effects, which are at your side helping you to do things. Recall gives you photographic memory, letting you find and recall things instantly. Cocreator helps you create art, putting large diffusion-based models at your service with each stroke of your digital pen.
Devices become more helpful when they are better able to understand what you want. The interaction model shifts from programmatic to piloted, from exact to fuzzy, from explicit to implicit, and from typing commands to asking.
