Leg 38 of the Great Loop aboard The Perch takes us through the last of the New York State Canals. Starting from Brewerton, we go through Lock 23 on the Erie Canal and then turn onto the Oswego Canal. The western part of the Erie Canal has bridges as low as 15', so boats that can't clear those must turn on to the Oswego. We locked through all 7 locks on the Oswego Canal and tied up for the night just before Lake Ontario.
The Great Loop is the boating adventure of a lifetime! Loopers travel 6,000 miles aboard their own boats, cruising the New York State Canals, the Great Lakes, the inland rivers, the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, and Chesapeake Bay. The route circumnavigates the eastern U.S. and takes most Loopers a year or more to complete.
