Coral Bells (Heucheras) Beautiful & Frustrating!
Coral Bells otherwise known as Heucheras are gorgeous in the landscape but frustrating for all gardeners in all zones cause of their short life as a perennial. Combine the lifespan of 3-4 years with plant tags that say they will grow in colder climates and you end up with disappointed gardeners. I wanted to share some tips for getting that 3-4 year lifespan out of these plants and what not to do. Keep in mind that the best bet is to enjoy them while you can if you did plant them and don't fuss over them. We tend to over compost and overfeed our plants these days. There comes a point where you need to allow the plant to adjust to your climate on its own. Once it has settled in and put down roots after a year then you can give it some granular fertilizer once a year. Some plants are better off left alone and not fussed over. Heucheras are one of those plants!
