Here is the diet in Ulcerative colitis.
Avoid raw salads, milk, Cheese, buttermilk.
Thick Yogurt is good. Banana is excellent.
Pomegranate juice is amazing. Consume 50 ml ( 2 Oz once or twice daily) Fresh Coconut water is good. consume empty stomach daily. Avoid packaged one. Fresh is recommended.
Refined flour is ok. Bread is fine but prefer corn flour instead of wheat. Rice ( Khichdi) is ok. Moong beans are good. Avoid spicy food, Sambhar, Chillies, Bell peppers. Avoid Peas, mushrooms, Brocolli, Cauliflower, French beans.
Pumpkins, Gourds, Turnips, Carrots, mashed otatoes are ok. Avoid milk.
Avoid coffee,Tea, Biscuits, Alcohol. Herbal teas like Green tea is somewhat allowed but better to take pitta reducing herbal teas.
Avoid oily, Fried snacks like Samosa or chips.
Custard apple, Sapota ( Chiku), Litchi, Apple Juice, Pumpkin juice and soup, Avocado, pear juice are all ok to take.
Sour fruits like berries, Cherries, Pineapples, lemons, oranges, Jackfruit, Kinu etc. are all.prohibited.
Millets,( Jwar,Bajra, Raagi) are little drying. They are good for obesity and diabetes but difficult to digest in Colitis.
fermented foods are usually not so good in many cases. Kefir is not good. Sweets made from milk or milk products are not recommended.
To restore or optimize Gut biome, Thick yogurt is enough. no need to take extra probiotics.
