Go behind the scenes to meet some of the care team who played a crucial part in Saybie’s journey. Sandra, a medical social worker, explains her role in helping Saybie's family.
At only 8.6 ounces (245 grams), Saybie, the world’s smallest surviving baby ever born was delivered at Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women & Newborns in San Diego, California. Saybie was delivered at 23 weeks and 3 days gestation after her mother experienced severe pregnancy complications. After a nearly five-month stay in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Sharp Mary Birch, she was discharged in May 2019 as a healthy, 5-pound infant.
