Experiencing discomfort during sex can be very concerning for women. Vaginal dryness is a common issue that occurs when tissues in the vaginal wall aren’t well moisturized, leading to thinning and dryness. Although it can occur at any age, it’s most likely to happen during the menopause transition. Women experiencing vaginal dryness may feel too uncomfortable or experience pain during sex, leading to a lack of intimacy with their partner.
The primary cause of this issue is frequently low hormone levels resulting from menopause. At this time, the body naturally produces less estrogen, which plays a crucial role in lubricating, thickening, and maintaining the elasticity of the vaginal walls. Without adequate estrogen levels, the result is vaginal atrophy, which causes inflammation, thinning, and drying.
Menopause Vaginal Dryness - Getting the Help You Need
In this episode we talk about vaginal dryness, a common, painful, and frustrating symptom. Many women suffer in silence but there is no need! The treatments for vaginal dryness are easy, inexpensive and available. Discuss your symptoms with your healthcare provider because over-the-counter water-based lubrication may do the trick, or you can get a prescription for a stronger treatment that can help heal any tearing and damage to your vaginal lining.
Vaginal Changes
Changing hormone levels can have an impact on the genital organs causing changes to the vagina that can result in dryness or pain. Although the accompanying symptoms such as menopause vaginal dryness, menopause vaginal itching, and menopause vaginal odor may be unpleasant, fortunately they are quite often easily addressed with simple self-care routines.
