The Mercado de San Miguel has become much more than just a market. It is a place of pilgrimage for those looking for a special ingredient for their recipes or simply a different kind of tapas. Since 1916, it has been located in the square that bears its name, overseeing the goings-on in the nearby Plaza Mayor. Today it is a cultural asset with more than 30 stalls, and locals and tourists alike never tire of sampling the food on offer. This place has so many options and can get really busy! We walked through this emblematic market and tasted the famous empanadas and freshly squeezed orange juice.
