What is an Abstract Noun?
An Abstract Noun is usually the name of a quality, action, or state of the object.
Quality - Goodness, kindness, whiteness
Action - Laughter, theft, movement
State - Childhood, boyhood, sleep
Abstract Nouns can be formed in three ways :
(1) From Adjectives
(2) From Verbs
(3) From Common Nouns
Exercise :
1. Form Abstract Nouns from the following Adjectives:
young: youth
humble: humility
decent: decency
2. Form Abstract Nouns from the following Verbs:
know: knowledge
live: life
expect: expectance
3. Form Abstract Nouns from the following Common Nouns:
daughter: daughterhood
thief: theft
author: authorship
