What is zoom fatigue, and how do I fix it?
According to our TechnologyAdvice HR expert, Jessica Dennis,
it’s the mental, physical, social, and emotional exhaustion a person feels after the persistent use of video conferencing software (like Zoom) for virtual meetings.
A 2023 study from Scientific Reports confirms instances where virtual meetings have caused neurophysiological changes that lead to fatigue.
The symptoms include extreme tiredness, inability to focus, irritability, anxiety, and insomnia. It can also cause lower morale, poor performance, and increased conflict with coworkers.
The big question though, what can you do about it?
Companies should consider doing a meeting audit, ensuring all new and reoccurring meetings are 1. Necessary and 2. Not longer than necessary.
Some other great ways to avoid Zoom fatigue are using alternative communication methods, like Microsoft Teams or Slack, or even a simple e-mail if that’s all that’s needed to get the point across.
Hopefully that helps clear things up. Anyone have anything else before we wrap this meeting?
