I would like to dedicate this one to my Aunty Pam who turns her dreams into goals and then achieves them. Thank you for giving us the great Tisdale wilderness. You are a great inspiration.
Written by Kelsy Gibos and Travis Johnson in 2010-2011 while away and homesick in Australia, this song has something almost every Canadian can relate to. We hope that it will initiate people to get out and use their senses to feel, see, hear, taste and smell Canada in their own way because that's the only way we can truly be a part of this country. Get dirty in it. Its ours to protect.
Kelsy was born and raised in Crowsnest Pass, Alberta before moving up to Edmonton to begin her studies in Environmental Science leading to a career in wildfire behaviour sciences. She has an innate love for everything rock and snow and connection to the land that bears it.
Travis is a city boy, growing up in Calgary immersed in a culture where gaining material possessions and power through exploitation of the natural environment too often comes far before social and environmental values. Never really feeling like he quite fit in to the urban lifestyle, he began to move himself west to the mountains or east to the farmland whenever possible.
Both of us have travelled the country extensively and most of the photos are from our personal experience. We would like to thank our friends and relatives that were generous enough to share their photos with us for this project.
The song was recorded in Australia by a good friend originally from Vulcan, now living with his wife in Stanley, Victoria. He also plays the violin for the song. Thanks, Mel! It would not have been the same without you.
