In the 5 years since the initial publication of the IDDSI Framework, there has been a huge explosion of research regarding diet texture modification and terminology, with more than 230 citations of the original paper. Over this time frame, a number of issues regarding use of the IDDSI Framework in research studies have come to light, which researchers need to be aware of. These include the practice of mapping historic terminology to the IDDSI Framework, use of correct equipment for stimulus testing, clarifications regarding the minimal tests required to confirm consistency for IDDSI Levels 3 and 4 (moderately thick/liquidised and extremely thick/pureed), recognition that the IDDSI Framework is a system of descriptive terminology and definitions rather than a diet, availability of the IDDSI Functional Diet Scale, and appropriate statistical handling of IDDSI levels and IDDSI-FDS scores in analysis. In this webinar, Professor Steele, who has been the research lead on the IDDSI Board of Directors, will review these issues and point to gaps in our knowledge that represent exciting opportunities for future research. Ample time will be left for interaction, questions and discussion with the audience.
