Over the past several decades, Los Angeles has built out an expansive network of rail transit, include both at-grade and tunneled lines. Successful, voter-approved sales tax measures have allowed the region to sustain a steady stream of capital projects, with several light rail lines and subway extensions currently underway. Los Angeles has utilized a variety of approaches to building rail transit, including design-bid-build and design-build procurements, in-house delivery through LA Metro, and delivering the Expo and Gold Lines through independent construction authorities. In this sessions, representatives from Los Angeles will discuss the history and evolution of transit project delivery in the region, including challenges delivering early subway lines, best practices that have emerged from recent transit projects, the cultivation of strong in-house expertise, and plans for future capital expansions.
