"I wanted to look nice. When I saw this dress I thought, 'Well, that's it.' It looked like a building to me. It looked like part of New York architecture and so I loved it. Olivia designed it for Nina Ricci. It fit. I tried it on. It literally zipped up and that was it."

6. SOUNDBITE: (English) Sarah Jessica Parker:
"It's more than words could even begin to articulate what it feels like tonight to be here, to be with these women and my entire family is here who have never seen the movie and my sweet loving patient husband. It is probably one of the great nights in my professional career. It is very moving honestly. To see the streets lined with fans even with the threatening skies has been amazing."
SEX REACHES THE CITY
After premieres in Berlin and London, 'Sex and the City' mania finally hit New York City on Tuesday evening (27MAY08).
The fabulous four - Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon braved the rain and walked the pink carpet at the premiere held at the famed Radio City Music Hall.
The movie picks up where the series left off when it ended four years ago.
The film centres on Carrie Bradshaw (Parker) and her impending marriage to longtime love Mr. Big (Chris Noth).
Parker arrived at the premiere wearing a strapless Nina Ricci gown.
The actress says she thought of the dress as a work of art:
"I wanted to look nice. When I saw this dress I thought, 'Well, that's it.' It looked like a building to me. It looked like part of New York architecture and so I loved it. Olivia designed it for Nina Ricci. It fit. I tried it on. It literally zipped up and that was it."
Parker, who lives in New York with her husband Matthew Broderick and their son, said attending the premiere with her fellow New Yorkers was a career highlight.
Kim Cattrall plays the feisty publicist Samantha Jones. Cattrall says she actually learned from her character:
"I think she has really taught me not to take things too seriously and not be frightened to fail and try again. I think most people in life are kind of picking at the appetiser. She is more like Auntie Mayme. She is enjoying the whole journey. She eats big. She lives big. She loves big. She does everything big, except Mr. Big."
Kristin Davis also learned from her character Charlotte York.
"That I am tenacious," Davis says. "That is her best quality. When I look back on it, I realise that I was tenacious and I didn't realise it. How's that? I think any actor is tenacious if you don't quit."
Cynthia Nixon says she is just excited to finally be able to talk openly about the film which has been surrounded in secrecy.
Chris Noth was celebrating at the premiere. As he stopped to talk with the press, he continually waved to screaming fans.
After the long wait, 'Sex and the City' finally hits theatres this Friday 30 May 2008.
