On February 7, 2023, indie pop artist SYML, joined us at the Leon Loft for an intimate live performance and interview with Acoustic Cafe's, Rob Reinhart.
Former Barcelona vocalist Brian Fennel currently performs under the solo project SYML, which is Welsh for “simple”(pronounced "sim-muhl"), inspired by his own personal heritage. SYML’s stripped-down synth sounds combined with smooth violin riffs and melodic vocal harmonies complement each other the way peanut butter compliments jelly, and the outcome sounds anything but “stripped-down”. During his time on Acoustic Cafe, SYML performed renditions of “Believer”, Tragic Magic”, “You and I”, and “Corduroy” from his newest album The Day My Father Died (2023). He also performed “Where’s My Love” from his 2021 album Sacred Spaces.
You can find SYML’s newest album, The Day My Father Died, on all streaming platforms. Vinyl, merch, and more can be found at www.symlmusic.com.
SYML was joined by fellow musicians Abby Gundersen (piano/vocals), and Brian Eichelberger (bass/keys/violin/vocals). In between songs, SYML talks about the cathartic release he gets from his songs, his adoptive parents, the transition from his first band Barcelona, and working with renowned music producer Phil Eck.
