CINCINNATI (WKRC) - After spending 48 days in the hospital after contracting the cornoavirus, Finneytown's Daniel Pilder was finally allowed to go home on Friday.
The 70-year-old was The Jewish Hospital’s first COVID-19 patient, according to the hospital.
At his departure, The Jewish Hospital ICU team that cared for him during his stay was there when he reunited with his wife Nancy, his daughter Erin and his grandchildren.
"What started with cold symptoms followed by flu-like symptoms suddenly developed into something much more serious and Daniel was admitted to the hospital on March 15," said the hospital in a release. "He was on the ventilator for 28 days and required ECMO, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, a treatment that uses a pump to circulate blood through an artificial lung back to oxygenate it before sending it back into the bloodstream."
Mr. Pilder turned 70 during his stay at the hospital and nurses celebrated with him even though he was sedated at the time. When he woke up he was able to celebrate by video conferencing his family.
