In a previous video we talked about different part types such as Original Equipment (OE/OEM) parts from your automaker, aftermarket and used part (Consumer Tip: Understanding Part Types, [ Ссылка ])
Today we are going to go a little deeper into two part categories you might find on your estimate or repair order, and discuss the difference between Original Equipment (OE/OEM) parts and “Opt OE / Opt OEM” parts. These terms can cause a lot of confusion, as they appear very similarly on the repair documentation. An OEM part is sold through a dealer, or authorized supplier approved by the original equipment manufacturer. An Opt OE part may be sold through an unauthorized supplier, and may not come with the warranty from the OE manufacturer. Opt OEM parts are often specified to save money.
As a consumer, you have the right to approve what parts are used in the repair of your vehicle, however there are factors that can influence who will pay for those parts, including insurance policy limitations and state laws and regulations. This makes it important to be well-informed on part types, and to be able to speak with your repair professional and insurance company about what you want and expect in the repair process.
