Why have the Saints written more commentaries about the Song of Songs than any other book in the Bible? What is erotic love poetry doing in the Bible in the first place? In order to answer those questions, we must first reevaluate our understanding of the erotic.
In our culture, it seems that the word “erotic” is synonymous with the word “pornographic.” In truth, pornography is a terrible twisting up of what God designed to be sacred: the gift of our sexuality. Only through a truly Christian understanding of our sexuality can we come to understand the mystery of the Song of Songs.
