Subject: Do I have to pay a premium for Medicare Parts A and B?
If you are over the age of 65 and you or your spouse worked at least 10 years in a job where Medicare taxes were paid, you won’t have to pay a premium for Medicare Part A. You also won’t have to pay a premium if you already receive retirement benefits from Social Security or the Railroad Retirement Board, or if you are eligible for these benefits but haven’t filed for them yet.
On the other hand, Medicare Part B does include a monthly premium. Typically, this premium is deducted directly from your Social Security, Railroad Retirement, or Civil Service Retirement check. If not, you will receive a Medicare bill every three months.
For both Medicare Parts A and B, you are still required to pay deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance regardless of whether you pay a premium or not.
