A conversation I find myself having often with other clarinetists (and occasionally oboists) is about the differences in sound between grenadilla wood and cocobolo wood. I happen to own quite a few barrels (and bells) in each wood, and I've brought 2 Backun barrels with me on tour, one of each type of wood. Both are the exact same model (the now-discontinued "Traditional" model), and both are 66mm. I play them back to back here in this video with the Clark Fobes "Debut" mouthpiece, and will repeat the experiment in the next video with the new Rico Reserve X10 mouthpiece. I personally find there to be a very noticeable difference between the woods...do you? :) (And if you do, which do you prefer?)
