The conflict between the Texas National Guard and the Border Patrol is escalating. The Texas Army National Guard has constructed a portable command post in Shelby Park, a hotspot for illegal immigration, and reinforced the area with concertina wire and anti-climb barriers. When Border Patrol agents tried to enter the park, Texas officials physically barred them. The federal government has appealed to the Supreme Court and sent a cease and desist demand to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, accusing Texas of impeding operations and acting unconstitutionally. The Department of Homeland Security has warned that it will refer the matter to the Department of Justice if Texas does not cease its efforts to block Border Patrol's access to the border. Despite this, Texas has continued to arrest illegal migrants in the area.
