In this episode of The Basics of Color Mixing, we learn about harmonious colors. Harmonious colors are colors that blend well together and typically sit beside each other in the color wheel. If we divide the super simple color wheel in half, we see that purple, blue, and green are on one side and red, orange, and yellow are on the other side. These two halves represent the cool colors and the warm colors. It is fairly easy to remember the warm colors as the colors you would use to paint a warm scene, like a toasty campfire. The cool colors can be found in cold or wet paintings, like an underwater scene.
Mixing and marbling white and black with either group will also look nice. Just make sure to keep the white and black from overpowering your beautiful colors.
