Joe Haldeman as his Master of Fine Arts thesis in 1972 when it was published in Analog Magazine. Re-released as a novel in 1974 it won the Nebula Award in 1975 and the Hugo and Locus awards in 1976.
The military Sci-Fi classic tells the story of William Mandella who is conscripted to fight a war against enigmatic aliens on battlefields spread across the galaxy.
While his survival is far from certain, the effects of time dilation means that even if he makes it back to Earth he will never be able to go home...
