At the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland, two new Stryker armored combat vehicle types are being fielded to the U.S. Army. The cars are the end result of a two-year project that promises to provide the Stryker far additional firepower and engagement range. These requirements are primarily driven by the need for the 2nd Cavalry Regiment, which is based in Germany, to more effectively deter Russia in eastern Europe and, if necessary, engage Russian armored fighting vehicles, which are outfitted with heavier weapons than the.50 caliber machine guns found on the majority of Strykers. Additionally, it's a reaction to the rise in popularity of civilian trucks that have been shabbily adapted to transport potent armaments like anti-aircraft guns.
