Biochar has extreme porosity which provides AMAZING water retention! In some soils, including biochar can mean adding 10% to 50% water retention.
In the second part of this demonstration. We pour out the water from the biochar to understand the retention capacity.
We started with a full glass, 350 ml/grams, of water. Then poured it over another full glass with 61 grams of char. It fit! No problem. In this video we cover the top and pour the water back to the first glass.
All said, we had over 50% water retention. Just imagine how much this would benefit your lawns, your crop yield, and how long it will extend your growing season. Wow!
Biochar is for everyone. Seriously, your plants/trees/crops will thrive. Studies show that peach trees with biochar added at planting, show an 1" in diameter increase in trunk size compared trees without biochar. Plant seedling can see a 50% increase in size the first month. Adding 10% biochar to volume can decrease the compost maturation cycle by 10 days.
What is biochar:
Biochar is the carbonized skeletal structure of biomass. Think of it as high-end condos for all those beneficial microbes and bacteria. Having a positive charge with plenty of nooks and crannies, nutrients to bond with the biochar and then slowly release. Think long term fertilization since biochar prevents leaching.
How biochar is made:
Our char is made from responsibly reclaimed Utah pine and processed in our pyrolyzer. This gives us a high quality char with about 87% organic carbon, 6.5% ash, just under 1% nitrogen and a pH a little over 9. Soil literally LOVES this stuff. Plants really love it even more! When you put it in the ground it becomes a semi-permanent soil addendum lasting thousands of years.
While we can ship nation-wide, we much strive to be carbon responsible and prefer to transport to locations in Utah or surrounding states.
