Introduction:
7805 is a voltage regulator IC, which can give, 5-volt fixed DC at its output. It has three pins Input, ground and Output.
We all know, that Electronic circuits needs power supply to run.
We have 230 volts AC power supply in our house.
Most of the IC’s used in the electronic circuits, works on 5 volts DC.
So, we need to convert the 230 volts AC in to 5 volts DC supply.
To convert a 230 volts AC, in to 5-volt DC, we need a step-down transformer, which will convert a 230 volt AC in to 12 volts AC.
Then we will convert the 12 volts AC, in to pulsating DC, using bridge rectifier.
Then we use a capacitor to filter the pulsating DC, this will give us the ripple DC.
Now 7805 will convert this 12-volt ripple DC, in to 5 volts fixed DC.
We can give 6 volts to 35 volts at its Input.
We need to connect 10uF capacitor at its input and output.
Apart from 7805 there are 7806, 7808, 7809 which gives fixed 6 volts, 8 volts and 9 volts respectively at its output.
This was some basic information about 7805 voltage regulators. Thank you so much.
