When Karthik started to work with visual impaired people he began to realize how little we know about their lives. How do you use a touchscreen without buttons when you’re visually impaired? How do you read texts, get information, recognize objects and persons?
Karthik and his partner invented an app that uses artificial intelligence to read a newspaper, recognize a person or an object. They are now working on glasses with artificial intelligence. Karthik wants you to open your eyes and see the world from the perspective of the visually impaired.
Karthik: “A blind engineer who used the app to help someone to install something on his computer said: ‘That’s the first time I’m helping someone. Normally I’m the one who is helped.’ We want to make this an everyday part of a visual impaired person’s life. So they can use it and wear them and then walk around, just like normal people. Independency is the ultimate aim. Karthik is passionate about computer vision and spend time thinking about ways to bring the cutting edge research in the field into production scale implementation.
As one of the founders of Envision - a tool that helps people with visual impairment to live a more independent life, using AI - he's made that passion his life's work. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at [ Ссылка ]
