Iran’s presidential candidates discussed the country’s foreign policy on Monday in a three-hour live debate, pledging to improve relations with other nations and work towards lifting sanctions. This televised debate was the fourth in a series of five leading up to Friday's election, following a helicopter crash last month that killed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and seven others. The final debate will be on Tuesday. Iran's economy is severely impacted by international sanctions, with inflation at about 30 percent. Candidates see inflation and sanctions as primary challenges. Moderate conservative Bagher Ghalibaf promises to align salaries with inflation to maintain purchasing power. Reformist Masoud Pezeshkian plans to tackle economic issues through transparency and law enforcement. Hardline conservative Saed Jalili focuses on education and continuing eastward policies to end Iran's isolation. The election will determine which candidate’s solutions voters prefer.
