KCR’s party leader asks TSRTC employees to end to Telangana transport strike
KCR’s family eyeing ₹65,000 cr. RTC assets’
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao’s family is eyeing RTC properties worth more than ₹65,000 crores across the State and wants their possession in the name of corporation’s revival plan.
In a statement here, TPCC treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy said the Chief Minister first aggravated the crisis by not addressing the problems being faced by employees and now he is trying to take advantage of the strike to initiate privatisation.
Mr. Reddy advised the Chief Minister to show some serious concern over the inconvenience being faced by nearly one crore commuters due to the ongoing strike of Road Transport Corporation employees and take measures to resolve the crisis.
“He is not bothered about the fate of over 48,000 employees, whom he declared as 'self-dismissed', and is trying to take over RTC's valuable properties,” Mr. Reddy alleged.
The Congress leader demanded that the Chief Minister release a white paper on RTC's factual situation giving details of its assets, liabilities, dues from the government and taxes imposed on the corporation. The report of the Sunil Sharma Committee on RTC issues should also be placed in the public domain, he said.
The ‘drama’ of talks with employees’ unions was enacted just 3 to 4 days before the end of the deadline set on the strike notice, and after the employees went on strike, the Chief Minister entered the scene to announce the dismissal of more than 48,000 workers in a single stroke, he said.
Hyderabad: As the indefinite strike by the TSRTC employees entered the 10th day on Monday, senior ruling TRS leader K Keshava Rao asked the workers to end the stir and resolve the issues amicably through talks, while a bandh was observed in Khammam protesting driver who immolated himself.
Rao also appealed to the government, which has taken a tough stand so far and declared the strike, to consider the employees' charter, barring the demand for merger of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation. Responding to the appeal of the senior TRS leader, a union leader asked Rao to mediate on the issue. Meanwhile, a delegation of the Joint Action Committee of the employee's unions submitted a memorandum to state Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan, seeking her intervention in the matter and claimed she responded positively.
The developments came in the backdrop of the continuing standoff and two employees, who ended their lives and attempted suicides by two others in the last couple of days. Nearly 48,000 workers of TSRTC are on an indefinite strike from October 5 in response to a call by the JAC over demands, including the merger of the corporation with the government and filling up of vacant posts.
In the first signs of a possible softening of the stand by the government, Rao, the TRS Parliamentary leader, and party secretary-general appealed to the employees to call off the strike and sort out the issue with the government in a 'legitimate way.' He urged the government to consider the employee's issues, other than the demand for the merger of RTC with the government.
Reacting to Rao's statement, TSRTC-JAC leader E Ashwathama Reddy told reporters that he (Keshava Rao) should mediate and help resolve the issues through talks. However, he said all the issues were linked with the merger and if that was done, the other issues would be resolved. "Let the government first begin the process of talks with us," he said.
