(17 Nov 2020) President-elect Joe Biden met virtually Tuesday with a number of national security and intelligence experts about the challenges facing the U.S. in the months ahead.
According to Biden transition officials, the experts briefed the president-elect on the diplomatic, defense, and intelligence challenges the administration will inherit on day one, "focusing on both the strategic landscape as well as the readiness of our foreign policy and national security departments and agencies."
Speaking to the group via a large screen from a theater in Wilmington, Biden said he's been "unable to get the briefings that ordinarily would have come by now."
"And and so, I just want to get your input on what you see ahead," he told the experts.
The Trump administration has blocked Biden from meeting with current Executive Branch officials or receiving the classified briefings typically provided to a president-elect during a transition period.
President Donald Trump has refused to acknowledged Biden’s victory, and the traditional transition process is not moving forward.
Biden told the group he's spoken with 13 world leaders since the election and his message has been the same: "America's back and it's no longer America alone."
