Hi LEGO fans! Today's LEGO review is Jay's Lightning Jet, set number 70614 from the Ninjago Movie. This 876 piece set comes with 6 Ninjago minifigures including Jay Walker, Jay's adoptive parents Ed and Edna and from the Shark Army: Crusty, Jelly and a Shark Army Thug. As well as unboxing and reviewing this LEGO Ninjago set, the video also includes a 90 second Lightning Jet speed build, so you can see Jay's awesome jet as featured in The Ninjago Movie come together in 4K ultra-HD.
Jay's Lightning Jet scales well against the other Ninjago mechs in the Ninjago Movie line of LEGO sets measuring 17" long and 11" wide. There are also some great interactive features including a handle on the bottom so you can swoosh the jet around for play action and a trigger to operate the rotating electro-disc on the top of the jet. That mechanism is particularly cool and uses a sprung action complete with clutch to engage the electro-disc and let it spin.
The LEGO Lightning Jet also has a spring-loaded shooting dart with rubber end which fires pretty far. The mechanism is very sensitive but makes it easy for younger LEGO builders to use. Also, on the Lightning Jet, we have adjustable wings so you can pose the jet as you wish and a built-in stand for display. The stand is a little wobbly, but it does the job and wing tips help to stabilize Jay's Lightning Jet. The wings also have very cool LEGO lightning elements in transparent blue and are covered in long antennae which were repetitive to put together but make for a very cool looking Ninjago jet.
My favorite part of this LEGO Ninjago Lightning Jet review is the Shark Army crab which is great fun. The Shark Army crab comes with a 6 stud rapid fire shooter, posable crab legs, a large snapping pincer to grab LEGO minifigures with and a face with teeth that gives the shark army crab bags of character.
The Ninjago minifigures in this set, which you also see in the Lightning Jet time lapse speed build include several weapons and accessories including Jay's spiked flail, Crusty's fish chainsaw, Jelly's stud-shooter and fish flashlight, and the Shark Army Thug's fish hammer. We also get a wrench for Ed which will come in very useful for his work at Ed and Edna's Scrap 'n Junk, the Walker family junkyard.
Overall, 70614 the LEGO Ninjago Lightning Jet is a great set and in my opinion good value for money given the 876 part count and the selection of minifigures including some exclusives. My favorite minifigure is Crusty from the Shark Army with his awesome hermit crab headgear.
