On 2001-Aug-6, NASA's Galileo spacecraft made its fifth flyby of Io during its 31st orbit around Jupiter, flying directly over one of Io's many active volcanoes, Tvashtar. Although it did directly sample the plume of an erupting volcano at the time, in reality this did not came from Tvashtar itself, but to an unnamed volcano just 600 km to the south
Closest approach to Io at this time is 237.03 km. This video is a 70-second timelapse of that encounter fast forwarded 10x from real time
