Video 1 of 2 -- "Autopilot" appears to be coming to new cars including some new Toyota models such as the Toyota Corolla 2020 Hybrid. The new features called Toyota Safety Sense TSS 2.0 includes a radar behind the grill, a front facing camera hidden above the mirror, the ability of the car to control braking, and to control steering (and of course, acceleration).
Given these hardware features, and accompanying software: after turning on both the Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) and the Lane Tracing (Centering) Assist (LTA), the car can basically drive itself while on road with very clear line markings on both sides.
The car will drive without hands on the wheel for only about 15 seconds, although there is nothing mechanically that would prevent it from driving longer: this appears to be a software safety feature that it disengaged after 15-seconds.
For about $1,000, there is an aftermarket dash cam / phone that can drive this car for long distances without driver intervention. This is called OpenPilot, which is being developed by a small startup, and for which there are numerous video demos online.
Note: Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 is not the same as the original Toyota Safety Sense, so check closely the specs on the car to see if it has the 2.0 (or newer) features and software.
Comment: Apologies for this video cutting short as my phone ran out of storage space. See video 2 of 2 for a longer demo of the DRCC and LTA "autopilot".
