We love celebrating our Pioneer heritage. This particular song touches us dearly as it describes what a young child may have felt and endured crossing the plains.
Our multigenerational great grandparents, John and Elizabeth Sermon, brought their children across the plains in the Willie Handcart company. The tender words Libby sings in this song are sad, but very realistic as even our Sermon family ancestors endured starvation, frostbite, and death--they buried their father/husband, John, in Martin's Cove.
And remarkably through it all they kept their faith in that which they held dear--especially in God, Jesus Christ, and the prophet. Music was also a force in their lives.
So we proudly associate our names today with theirs and strive to remember and celebrate the legacy they left. We too can do hard things and endure with grace and faith. May this inspire you to also remember the respective pioneers in your life!
Here's our rendition of Prayer of the Walking Child.
