세계 두 번째 돼지 심장 이식 환자 사망
Moving over to the U.S. where a 58-year-old Maryland man who became the second person in the world to receive a transplanted heart from a pig, has died.
Lawrence Faucette, who was dying from heart failure and ineligible for a conventional heart transplant, received the genetically modified pig heart transplant surgery on September 20th.
He survived for nearly six weeks after the highly experimental surgery, just short of the two months that the world's first pig heart transplant patient, David Bennett, lived following surgery the year before.
Faucette's cause of death was due to the body's rejection of the organ, while the previous patient, Bennett, passed away from a pig virus found inside the organ.
