The 2020 Mobo Awards was held yesterday, the 9th of December, with Nigerian superstars, Burna Boy and Wizkid winning big, despite top competition in their respective categories.

In today’s daily trending video, we dive deeper into last night's event. The Mobo Awards returned this year, after a three-year break since 2017. The award was held as a 90-minute virtual show hosted by Maya Jama and Chunkz.

While Burna Boy and Wizkid are our focus in this video, it is worth mentioning that they didn’t steal the headlines. North-west London rapper, Nines, stole the headlines after he won the Album of the Year award, for his 'Crabs In A Bucket' project.

The 30-year-old rapper was nominated in five categories. He also won the Best Hip Hop Act award. Headie One, another UK-based rapper, stole some spotlight from the night as well, as he took home the Best Male Act award.

Mahalia won the female version of the award, while also scooping the R&B Soul Act award as well. Nigerian Afrobeats sensation, Burna Boy, beat the likes of Drake, Pop Smoke, Roddy Ricch, Megan The Stallion, Lil Baby, and others, to win the prestigious Best International Act award.

It was one of the six publicly voted categories. Wizkid, who recently dropped the chart-topping album, Made In Lagos, won the Best African Act award. It was another publicly voted category that had other notable nominees like Davido, Tiwa Savage, Master KG, Stonebwoy, Rema, and Fireboy DML.

The event was lit up by electrifying performances from Davido, Tiwa Savage, Kojey Radical, Ms. Banks, Young T & Bugsey, and others.

This Mobo Awards recap video won't be complete without mentioning that Young T & Bugsey’s Don’t Rush track, won the song of the year award. This is coming as no surprise, as the song has been one of the most commercially successful singles this year.
