This year's Goumi crop is nothing short of amazing. This fruit is like eating wine and because it's related to the Autumn Olive, I decided to plant a variety called Ruby.
Goumi Introduction (00:00):
I would like to introduce you to a popular variety of the Goumi bush known as the Carmine variety. It has been gaining popularity due to its unique taste and potential health benefits.
Freezing Goumi (00:36):
I'm planning to freeze some Goumi berries to see how it affects their slight astringency. As the berries ripen and turn fully red, the astringency fades, and they start to dry on the tree.
Complex Taste (01:13):
When I eat the Goumi berries, it reminds me of drinking wine because of its complex taste. The berries are acidic, sour, and sweet, resembling fruit punch, with a distinct berry flavor and a hint of astringency.
Goumi Experience (02:20):
The experience of eating these berries leaves a lasting impression, similar to the feeling of drinking wine. I've developed a new habit of holding the berry by the stem, eating around the pit, and chewing the pit to extract its oils.
Propagation Attempts (04:14):
I have been making attempts to propagate the Goumi plant. During the growing season, I take cuttings and treat them with rooting hormone under a misting setup.
Seed Germination (06:03):
Despite people warning about their invasiveness, I'm hopeful to germinate Goumi seeds and grow more plants. Unfortunately, I haven't observed any seedlings yet, even though I scattered the seeds around.
Comparison with Other Varieties (07:11):
I want to compare the Carmine variety to other Goumi varieties, such as Sweet Scarlet and Red Gem. I've noticed that Carmine has larger fruit size and a better flesh-to-pit ratio.
Introduction of Autumn Olive (07:45):
Let me introduce you to the Ruby Autumn Olive plant, which is related to the Goumi plant but fruits in the fall. I'm hoping that it can provide a fruiting plant during the fall season when Goumi doesn't bear fruit.
Plot Conditions (09:32):
The plot where I planted the Autumn Olive plant only receives four or five hours of light per day. I've prepared it with wood chips and added wine cap mushroom spawn.
Anticipated Observations (10:09):
I'm excited to study the size of the seeds, the flavor of the fruits, and other characteristics of the Autumn Olive plant. As the video ends, I would appreciate it if you could subscribe and like the video.
