ski mountaineering winter partial ascent of Mt. Shasta up Casaval Ridge . Getting some good skiing was my primary objective this trip and the corn snow did not disappoint.
The conditions (which I never showed well) were all slip and you die on most of the ridge as the mountain was wind scoured and the ridge and surrounding areas were sheets of ice. I also did no Casaval ridge research prior to this trip so spent a lot of time sticking to proper ridge and downclimbing when needed to continue up the mountain. I would recommend you stay farther on left side (when ascending) to avoid this and regain the ridge below misery hill through the catwalk.
Overall great adventure with some great turns as a payoff but please be aware this trip was not a great example of mountaineering safety being solo and next time I would climb differently.
