Equitable distribution is the division of the assets and debts of the marriage. The court usually looks to have a 50-50 division of assets and debts and it's the distribution of who is going to have what asset and who is going to have what debt. Court tries to do a 50-50 with regard to equitable distribution unless there are circumstances that warrant an unequal distribution which would be if one of the parties was having an affair and that affair caused monetary impact on marital assets of the parties. Then the other party would get more of the asset than the person that had the affair and dissi-, what's called, dissipated the asset.
