Dr. Stephen Shore is an autistic professor of special education at Adelphi University.
Diagnosed with "Atypical Development and strong autistic tendencies" and "too sick" for outpatient treatment Prof. Shore was recommended for institutionalization. Nonspeaking (previously known as "nonverbal") until four, and with much support from his parents, teachers, wife, and others.
Stephen is now a professor and focuses his research on matching best practice to the needs of people with autism.
Professor Shore is a delight to speak with and he shares willingly and easily the strategies that his parents utilized to support him during his younger years.
