Angola’s war began immediately after she attained independence from Portugal in November 1975. The war was a power tussle between two former anti-colonial guerrilla movements, the communist People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and the anti-communist National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA).
The 27-year civil war ended with a peace agreement in 2002. 20 years after the fighting stopped, Angola celebrates with a mass for peace.
