At Lost Shore Surf Resort, we take the wellbeing of our team very seriously and, as it happens, we are in the business of surfing which can be a fantastic vehicle for supporting mental health.
Not all our team are surfers, so it's important for those of us that do surf to share the stoke which we all benefit from! As such we recently ran a surf lesson day with the whole team involved, and in this film we focus on our HR Director Claire Cornet, who had her first experience surfing.
We asked Claire how she felt…
“It was an amazing experience, I’m aware of the benefits of being outdoors and in the water and what it does for your mental health. The guys are always telling me how amazing it is to surf too. They weren’t wrong, it was my first time on a surfboard and it was such a great experience, being part of something that’s so different to your day job and having fun, forgetting about the everyday stuff we all have to do and just totally being present and in the moment - trying not to fall off! It was absolutely brilliant, I would recommend it to anyone, I slept like a baby that night!”
For us, mental health awareness is an ongoing commitment, we shouldn't need a national initiative to make us look after ourselves but it’s a very helpful reminder, so here is today’s suggestions for your own wellbeing:
• Complete some form a physical activity - run, cycle, dance, SURF!
