Politicians and military experts in Brussels say Putin is close to boxing himself into the Black Sea with the full might of NATO standing behind a Turkish closure of the Bosphorus Straits and the Dardenelles under the 1936 Montreux Convention.
With the Kremlin escalating its war of words against Turkey, Ankara could immediately shut-down any Russian military naval vessel traffic through the Straits, crippling Russia's so-called war on the Islamic State in Syria.
