Do you struggle with pushups? Does your shoulder pinch or ache during and after doing them? Tag someone whose shoulders roll forward and wing out. For clarification about “winging scapulae,” watch the video we posted the other day.
There are numerous ways to do pushups, we are only demonstrating ONE. So calm down about pushup technique. What we are focusing on here is your shoulder blade positioning. No matter the type of pushup or dip you decide to do, you need to be able to keep your blades scooped forward as shown by myself vs what @jacquelinemonroe is doing. She does not yet have sufficient strength to maintain her “serratus anterior” activation as she moves through a pushup.
If you are unable to maintain the armpit scoop while doing a pushup on the ground, work on doing it while you are up against a bench, counter, or chair. Record yourself from the back and side and make sure that you can maintain the scoop of the blades as shown in the video. As you get better with it, transition to lower objects until you get to the floor.
