We absolutely love our Rocky Talkie Mountain Radios, we consider them part of essential gear when backpacking and hiking. When the new 5 Watt GMRS radios were released, we reached out to Rocky Talkie to see if they would be interested in us reviewing them. We were super excited they said yes. So off to the mountains we headed to test them out, but first we wanted to test the longevity of the batteries. For our test we did a 7 day battery test comparing the 5 Watt to the Mountain Radio, along with another inexpensive GMRS Radio, the RadioDitty GM30. We were very surprised with the results. Testing the range of the radios was next on the agenda, heading to a heavily forested mountain area with lots of hills and ravines. When it comes to Overlanding, having a good communication system is key, the 5 Watt radios will be a great addition to our offroad gear.
